Promotional Pens: Why Quality Matters

If you’re in charge of marketing, promotion, or advertising at your company, then there’s no question that you’ve probably given some thought to the types of promotional pens you’ll be giving away at trade shows, job fairs, and other events where you want to get noticed.

Remember, quality is key in promotional products like pens. These are the reasons:

1. They feel good to use
First impressions count. Your customers will immediately form opinions about your company based on how you present yourself, which extends to every interaction, even at a very basic level. A promotional pen with a smooth grip encourages users to hold it for long periods, which makes them more comfortable to use.

2. They are easy to write with
An effective promotional pen should be able to stand out from a pile of pens. To do that, a quality custom pen must have an excellent grip. This may sound silly, but it’s one of those small details that can make or break a pen as a promotional product. It needs to feel natural in your hand and not get in your way while writing. The best way to achieve such comfort is using materials with a rubbery, grippy feel (such as silicone).

3. The ink doesn’t smear
You can’t expect your customers to keep using them if it does. You want to ensure that everything stays legible and clear when they take notes. If there are any issues, you might as well get a new pen right then and there; people aren’t okay with writing with a pen that doesn’t write as it should for more than a few uses. Therefore, when choosing promotional pens for your marketing goals, look for one that writes clearly each time.

4. The pen design is cool
The actual pen design is important. If your pens aren’t comfortable or slip easily from users' hands, they aren’t going to be used. Make sure that you are ordering promotional pens that are ergonomically designed and easy to use. A professionally designed custom pen will stay in your customers' hands a lot longer, so they’ll use it more often and see your logo more often.

5. The imprinted logo looks good
A good promotional pen should be appealing to carry and use. This depends on the design and logo. Remember, you want them to use it more often, so they’ll have more opportunities to look at your logo and remember your brand. Promotional pens that look bad give off a cheap vibe and are liable to be lost or unused in a drawer.

There are so many options in promotional pens, so it can be hard to know where to start. While plastic pens have their advantages, they won’t break if you accidentally drop them, and they’re generally more affordable than metal pens. However, they don’t come close to a quality steel pen regarding perceived value. The most important thing is to go for the right pen, which will help improve your brand awareness.
